Tony Kingsbury is the EMEA Director of Sustainability and Advocacy for Dow’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics (P&SP) business. He is responsible for developing and implementing short and long-term P&SP sustainability strategy. Additionally, the role includes working collaboratively across the industry to drive needed change including but not limited to circularity of plastics and insuring that plastics do not enter the environment, especially our oceans. Thus the role also includes working with all manner of stakeholders including NGO’s, customers, brand owners, retailers, governments and associations to seek and deliver sustainable solutions.
Kingsbury honed his sustainability expertise during a three-decade long career at in a variety of roles including both inside and outside Dow. He is a recognized expert in circular economy, marine plastics, green chemistry, value chain sustainability, public policy, life cycle thinking, corporate and product sustainability. He has worked with Fortune 500 companies around the globe in supply chains ranging from packaging to consumer electronics, apparel to toys. He is known for using his wide-ranging knowledge of the whole supply chain to find workable solutions to complex challenges and for distilling complex messages into understandable language.
Kingsbury has engaged with external stakeholders long before it was popular. His work on ocean plastics dates back more than 20 years and includes deep relationships with the Ocean Conservancy and Jean Michel Cousteau’s Oceans Future. He led Dow’s global engagement with the Walmart initiated Sustainability Consortium and worked in leadership positions with associations including but not limited to the PlasticsEurope, ACC, Eurorpen, Sustainable Packaging Council, Biodegradable Products Institute, and the Environment and Plastics Industry Council of Canada.
Not satisfied to work solely in a corporate environment, Kingsbury spent the period between 2007 and 2012 as a Dow Executive in Residence at University of California, Berkeley. In this role, Kingsbury led the multidisciplinary sustainability center and taught a variety of graduate level sustainability courses. In 2012 he left Dow to consult in the sustainable plastics and chemicals space. In early 2019 he returned to Dow to in his current role.
Kingsbury holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Oregon State University (Oregon, USA). He also completed the ESADE/Stanford Executive Program in Corporate Responsibility.
He lives in Switzerland with his wife and enjoys travel, scuba diving and photography.
