Mourad Hassan is a well-rounded HSSE, Process Safety and Operations Leader with 16 years of experience in the on/offshore Upstream and Downstream Oil and Gas industry at both operated and non-operated ventures.
He currently works at Methanex, the world’s largest producer and supplier of methanol to major international markets in North America, Asia Pacific, Europe and South America, as the Responsible Care Leader at the company’s plant in Egypt since 2018.
He supports global turnaround execution, develops global Responsible Care programs and leads the delivery of a major project modification in Egypt.
He also leads the development and standardization of policies, standards and procedures for safety and emergency response across the organization and builds organization capability and competence across all disciplines. As part of his strong commitment to PSM, Mourad oversees the development of the facility’s Safety Case and its supporting engineering studies as well as organizing an annual Industry Process Safety Conference since 2018.
Prior to joining Methanex, Mourad worked for BP’s Upstream Operations for 11 years in Egypt, the United States, Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom. He later joined Shell’s Upstream Operations for 4 years in Oman. He led the HSSE, PSM and Operations agenda at major operating facilities, executed major projects, led Drilling HSSE operations and held corporate HSSE roles. He was a member of BP’s Deepwater Horizon emergency response.
Mourad has a BSc in Environmental Engineering, a MSc in Process Safety and Loss Prevention and is a member of the UK IChemE.
