Dubai, United Arab Emirates; October 13, 2015: Winners of the first Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Responsible Care Awards celebrate their success in improving health, safety and environmental (EHS) performance during an outstanding awards ceremony. Winners were selected from 63 entries in three categories.
Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co (GPIC) was nominated Best Responsible Care Company for consistently leading and inspiring on Responsible Care in the Arabian Gulf. The jury, consisting of four acclaimed industry experts, noted: “GPIC regularly goes far beyond regulatory requirements, often implanting unique sustainability projects that not only improve performance but also serve to inspire others. The company is a true business in the community and exceptionally involved in Bahrain’s society.”
Sayer Al Shammari, General Manager, SABIC, was awarded Best Responsible Care Champion, a for overseeing the adoption of the Responsible Care initiative at 17 of SABIC’s regionally-based operational affiliates.
Winner of the Best Responsible Care Project was Borouge for its Sustainable Supply Chain project, which involved switching the transport mode of raw material being imported to Borouge’s manufacturing facility some 250 km from Khalifa port, from road transportation to marine vessel.
A special award for RC Champion Extraordinaire went to Alan Izzard, Vice Chairman of the GPCA Responsible Care Committee and Senior Advisor at Borouge.
Through its Responsible Care awards program, GPCA aims to recognize and share the experiences of the companies and individuals that have exemplified leadership and outstanding performance in the implementation and execution of the Responsible Care program over the past two years.
